Czech-Mongolian Relations

How It All Began

Czech-Mongolian relations date back to 1950, when former Czechoslovakia established official diplomatic ties with the Mongolian People’s Republic. Czechoslovakia was the fourth country to open a diplomatic mission in Mongolia and significantly contributed to the development of industry, healthcare, and infrastructure.

Czech experts discovered copper and molybdenum deposits in Erdenet, supplied buses, brewery technology, and contributed to the education of thousands of Mongolians who earned university degrees in the Czech Republic. A significant project is also the Return of the Przewalski’s Horse, supported by Prague Zoo. Today, the Czech Republic remains an important partner of Mongolia in development aid, research, and business, with both countries united by mutual respect and friendship.

Most Mongolians in the Czech Republic are recent arrivals and have no historical ties to the pre-1989 period. Due to controlled labour migration, the Asian community—including a growing number of students from Vietnam, Mongolia, and the Philippines—is gaining increasing significance in the country.
